Several years ago, a 'big cat' was seen on a number of occasions in the Robin Hoods Bay area and beyond. I myself actually saw it in the middle of the road at the top of Skelder on one occasion, however as far as I am aware there have been no sightings reported for some time now. A couple of days ago, I was cycling to Ravenscar along the old railway and just as I was approaching the Fyling Hall Station, there in the centre of the track was a large feline. It seemed a little larger than a labrador and was a tawny brown colour,if I had been asked what it was I would have had no hesitation in saying that it was a mountain lion. I stopped about 50 yards from it and for a few moments we stood and contemplated each other and I have to admit I was more than a little concerned. It wasn't untill what I was convinced was 'The Beast of Bay' moved off that I realised that it was nothing more than an ordinary domestic moggy. I have no idea why it looked so big to me, perhaps it was a trick of the light but it certainly gave me a turn.
