After a couple of wet days we were not surprised that this morning was damp and misty but since it was not actually raining we exchanged a few friendly insults and set off along some very dirty country lanes to Ugthorpe via Hutton Mulgrave. Generally speaking it was an easy ride due to the lack of wind and all was going well until Adrian's bike started to make some strange noises. He soon traced the problem to the rear brake and fortunately, he was carrying the necessary spare parts with him so after a few minutes of fiddling he had everything working again. From Ugthorpe we made our way to the main A171 road which we had to take for a mile or so before we could turn off. By this time the mist was quite thick so we rode in single file with our rear lights all set to a different flashing sequence which I think made us more visible to overtaking traffic.
A bout half way between Stonegate and Egton, the puncture fairy paid me a visit and we had to stop for a few minutes while I fit my spare inner tube, only to find that it too was not holding any pressure, Adrian lent me his spare tube which although a little too large for my tyre, did the job and got me under way again. Mal left us at Aislaby to collect his car which he had left the previous evening while Adrian and I continued home in what was now a steady drizzle. In spite of the poor weather and other problems, I enjoyed the ride. Once I had arrived home, I noticed the front light was not working, all I can think at the moment is that the rain has got in and caused a short circuit. so that is another job for tomorrow.
