Route Egton, Glaisdale, Lealholme, Stonegares, Aislaby.
Distance 23.9 Miles Difficulty Moderate with a couple of hard climbs Weather Bright & sunny with a cool breeze Company Mal & Adrian We all met at Stakesby Terminus for what was to be another leasurly ride out. It was hard to believe that it is now November because the weather was so pleasant. we encountered very little in traffic for most of the time but we did get stuck behind a large tractor when we were returning along Aislabyside, and then to complicate matters we met with a cattle truck and then a few minutes later, a refuse collection vehicle. The tractor squeezed past without difficulty and we followed suit. Route Aislaby Egton Lealholme road end & return.
Distance 19.8 Difficulty Easy Weather Bright & sunny Company Mal Route Dunsley Ugthorpe & Return
Distance 18.8 Miles Difficulty Easy with a couple of stiff climbs Weather Overcast & cool Company Mal We intended to ride a circular route through Ugthorpe, Stonegates & Egton, but unfortunately, the puncture fairy decided that it was time to pay me a visit. By the time I had fixed it and set off again it was getting noticeably darker so once we reached Ugthorpe we decided to turn back. Still, it was an enjoyable run out Route Aislaby, Egton, Ugthorpe, Sandsend
Distance 18.3 Miles Difficulty Moderate Weather Windy Company John This ride is fast becoming a habit for me. I think that is because it offers just about everything I need to enjoy a couple of hours on the bike. Quiet lanes, Beautiful scenery, some hill climbing and also some fast stretches too. 2nd & 3rd November
Route Dunsley, Skelder, Briggwath, Larpool. Distance 12 7 Miles Difficulty Easy Weather Overcast & breezy Company Solo Route Aislaby, Egton, Lealholme Road End & Return.
Distance 18 Miles Difficulty Easy Weather Fine & Sunny but a little cooler. Company Mal Route Railway, Beacon Howe, Ravenscar, & Return Distance 23.6 Miles Difficulty Easy Weather Bright & Breezy Company Solo My ride today was from Whitby to Ravenscar along the old Scarborough to Whitby railway line (the Cinder Track) as far as Browside Farm where I took the lane which eventually climbs up to the radio mast on Beacon Howe. This was the only hard climb of the day as I gained about 550 ft in 1.5 miles. After a steady whiz down to Ravenscar I felt in need of some refreshment so I called at the Tea Rooms near the Old Station & had a flapjack with some hot chocolate before continuing on my way home. One thing I noticed was that there were quite a few people out, many of them were genuine ramblers, but there was also a lot more grumpy towny's than usual. Route Dunsley, Broome House Lane, Lythe, Kettleness, return via Sandsend.
Distance 7.7 Miles Difficulty Easy to Moderate. Weather Bright but breezy. Company, Mal & Adrian This was a steady ride on a pleasant autumn morning. we were buffeted by the breeze at times and for much of the time the road surface was was a little slippery due to wet leaves and some muddy patches here and there. Because of this, I for one descended any hills at a more sedate pace than usual, even Lythe Bank was treated with respect as I was braking all the way down. Route Aislaby, Egton, Ugthorpe, Lythe
Distance 18.3 Miles Difficulty Easy Weather Mild with a threat of rain at first Company, John. A gentle potter around one of our favourite circuits to ease tight muscles after yesterdays walk. One thing of interest was that as we were sitting at Sandsend, I guy on an old 80s road bike, fitted with a pannier frame and fully laden passed by. As he passed he called out, but neither John or myself caught what he said, but we noticed that he had a foreign accent. A few minutes later we we set of for the last couple of miles to Whitby. When we reached the 'Love Lane' roundabout we saw the same guy trying to ask a chap something but there was a definite lack of understanding somewhere. We stopped and the cyclist asked us how to get onto the Cycle route to Scarborough. because of the language barrier etc it was easier to show him the way and this we did. Before parting company I asked him where he was from and where was he going. It turned out that he was a Spaniard cycling from Edinburgh to Barcelona. When I got home I checked what his mileage would be and it came to around 1400 miles. |
