Distance 10.2 miles
Difficulty Easy to Moderate Weather Bright and very pleasant Hight Gained 1053 ft Company Solo My walk today was similar to my last one the other day. My route took me through a housing estate to Mayfield Road and then after crossing over to the 'Yuill Estate' I followed the footpath to Ruswarp via Fitz steps and a wild pear tree where I samples what was on offer. The pears were smallish and quite hard, but very sweet and flavoursome. A little later I crossed a fence into Water Lane and followed this to Ruswarp High Street where after taking a photo of the Old Hall, I crossed the river and followed the road to the bottom of Oakley Bank and then followed a lane alongside the railway track to a white cottage where I took the field path to Echo Hill. From Echo Hill I made my way down to the station at slights and crossed the footbridge over the river to Briggswath and then on to Woodlands Drive, where I decided to stop for a sandwich. From Here I climbed up to Aislaby then following footpaths and lanes I made my way to Dunsley and Raithwait lake. I was quite disappointed to see the lake becoming choked with weed . It is a beautiful spot and the owners should maintain it a little better. I made my way home from here via Straggleton Farm which is something of an eyesore at the moment as the owners ar in the process of setting out a caravan site, but I am sure it will improve given time. |
